TextJam, Inc. operates TextJam, a collaborative AI-powered writing platform. We're committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and profile avatar image through Google Accounts. We don't store passwords – Google handles all authentication.

Your Documents and Content

We store the documents you create, including text you write and AI-generated content. We also keep chat conversations within documents and any prompts you provide to AI models.

Usage Analytics

We use localStorage (not cookies) to track how you use TextJam – which features you click, pages you visit, and how you interact with the editor. This helps us improve the service.

AI Request Logs

We keep detailed logs of your AI interactions, including your prompts and AI responses. This helps us improve AI performance for your future requests by learning your writing style and preferences. Any learnings from your documents are only applied to you or others with whom you've shared the document.

How We Use Your Information

• Provide and improve the TextJam service
• Generate AI responses tailored to your writing style
• Enable real-time collaboration with other users
• Create document summaries and descriptions
• Communicate with you about your account and service updates
• Track usage patterns to improve features

AI Processing and Third-Party Sharing

AI Providers

When you use AI features, we send your document content and prompts to third-party AI providers including OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), xAI (Grok), ElevenLabs, and others. All of our AI providers have agreements not to train their models on your data.

We automatically generate summaries for all documents using AI. This happens without explicit user action but helps organize your documents.

Data Retention at AI Providers

AI providers may retain your data for up to 30 days for abuse and safety monitoring, but not for training purposes. In cases of legal requirements, longer retention may apply.

Document Sharing and Access

You control who can access your documents. You can:

• Share documents with specific users (view, edit, or manage permissions)
• Create public links that anyone can access
• Make documents publicly editable or view-only

When you share documents, other users and any AI interactions they trigger will have access to the shared content.

Data Retention

• Active accounts: We keep your documents and data as long as your account is active
• Inactive accounts: Data is retained for at least one year after last activity
• AI logs: Kept for the lifetime of your document or account to provide you smarter AI responses
• Account deletion: Data is removed immediately from our live systems and from all backups within 30 days

Your Rights and Controls

Data Control

• Delete individual documents and their associated chats
• Export/download your documents (currently one at a time)
• Control who has access to your documents
• Delete your entire account and all associated data

AI Usage

AI features are opt-in – your content is only sent to AI providers when you or a collaborator actively uses AI tools, except for automatic document summaries.

EU and California Privacy Rights

If you're in the EU or California, you have additional rights including data portability, correction, and deletion. Contact us to exercise these rights.

Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encryption at rest and in transit, secure AWS infrastructure, network isolation, and Google Accounts authentication. We monitor our systems and will notify users promptly of any security incidents.

Cookies and Tracking

We use minimal tracking:

• Essential cookies: Only for login/session management
• Analytics: Session based tracking (not cookies) to understand feature usage
• No marketing cookies: We don't use tracking pixels or advertising cookies

Age Requirements

TextJam is intended for users 16 years and older. If you're under 16, please don't use our service.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy in the future. We'll notify you of significant changes via email or through the service.
